چکیده

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus responsible for disease 2019 (COVID-19), uses angiotensin-converting enzyme to invade human cells. However, recent evidence suggested that dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) may be used as a coreceptor when SARS-CoV-2 enters target cells (1). Interestingly, upregulation of DPP-4 is associated with older age, or cardiovascular disease, and diabetes (2), all which were reported exacerbate COVID-19. Given pathophysiological evidence, inhibitors have beneficial effects on high fatality rate COVID-19 among patients diabetes, there an urgent need understand effect Therefore, we aimed determine whether use reduces risk adverse COVID-19–related outcomes type (T2D). We conducted nationwide cohort study using Health Insurance Review Assessment Service database linked Korea Disease Control Prevention Agency database, covers entire South Korean population ≥50 million, from 1 January 2017 15 May 2020. We included who had positive test result 2020, been diagnosed T2D within preceding 3 years before diagnosis (cohort entry), ≥1 antidiabetic prescription 180 days entry. excluded aged <18 years; those prescribed metformin monotherapy only, restrict inclusion second- third-line therapy T2D; insulin they are likely diabetes; only do not belong …

DPP-4 inhibitors in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Although being a primary objective in the management of type 2 diabetes, optimal glycaemic control is difficult to achieve and usually not maintained over time. Type 2 diabetes is a complex pathology, comprising altered insulin sensitivity and impaired insulin secretion. Recent advances in the understanding of the physiological functions of incretins and their degrading enzyme dipeptidyl-peptid...

Healthcare Costs Among Adults with Type 2 Diabetes Initiating DPP-4 Inhibitors

INTRODUCTION Oral antidiabetes medications, including dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4is) saxagliptin and sitagliptin, are used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The study objective was to compare all-cause and diabetes-related costs following initiation of saxagliptin or sitagliptin. METHODS Patients aged ≥ 18 years initiating saxagliptin or sitagliptin between January 1, 2...
